Dr. Mohammed Hasan Alwan is the CEO of the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission at the Ministry of Culture. He has a Ph.D. in Marketing and International Business Administration from Carleton University in Canada.
Literature is the purest voice of the human conscience, the clearest mirror of cosmic beauty, the crystal of virtues, knowledge, morals, ideals and wisdom; I find it innately present in every society. Publishing is one of the most important tools we have, moving humanity from one era to another, connecting minds and ideas across countries. Translation is the intersection of cultural exchange, human coexistence, and the means towards tolerance, understanding and peace.
At the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission we realize the weight of our responsibility, to advance these three sectors and elevate them to the level of national cultural treasures
Our mission is to empower literature, publishing and translation to achieve the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 through supporting and shaping the sector culturally, professionally, and economically. This will provide all stakeholders – whether they be writers, publishers, translators, readers or investors – with opportunities to grow. In doing so, we play our part in achieving our country’s goal to be an ambitious nation, with a vibrant society and a thriving economy.
As we undertake this mission, we are inspired by His Royal Highness, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and his determination to ensure our country is a pioneer in the international cultural sector. We are also enlightened through the direction His Royal Highness the Crown Prince has provided to position the Kingdom among the most developed nations, and encouraged by the leadership of HH the Minister of Culture to collaborate with Saudi creative talent, who are the true assets of our cultural sector.
