Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission Hosts Top Saudi and Arab Intellectuals in Virtual Seminars.

The Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission is organizing virtual seminars from 5 May until 18 July 2020, which hosts top Saudi and Arab intellectuals to discuss various cultural and intellectuals causes. The seminar will be broadcast live for the public via the Ministry of Culture's official YouTube account. The Critic Dr. Abdullah Alguthami will be the first guest in the seminar at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, 5 July. He will be interviewed by the Journalist Mohammed Altumaihi on "the Effectiveness of the Reader." The related topics include factors affecting the reader's effectiveness, the recipient's ability to recycle and activate the literary text, the act of reading in literary criticism, the writer's role in reading productivity and effectiveness, and the reader's ability to assimilate and comprehend. The second seminar will interview Dr. Wasini Alaraj, the novelist, by Zainab Alkhudair at 8:30 p.m. on Monday 6 July. The subject discussion will be on the magic of narration and the stages of the novel's formation. It will also include an interview about the historical novel and its dimensions and the Arabian novel in the West. In the third seminar, which will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 7 July, the writer Muhammad Reda Nasrallah will talk about the memory of culture interviewed by Ra'ad Alaid. He will address the Saudi cultural identity and the role that the cultural media has played in society's intellectual development and talk about his personal experience with the literature pioneers of literature and thought in the Arab world. The virtual meetings of the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission will also host the calligrapher Ibrahim Al-Arafi in a dialogue on Arabic calligraphy's spirituality that will take place at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday 9 July and moderated by Nasreen Al-Turki. Meanwhile, the cultural critic, Mr. Ali Al-Amim, will be interviewed by Mishari Al-Dhaidy, at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, 10 July, in an interview entitled "Something from Criticism, Something from History," which will address glimpses of Saudi cultural history. On Saturday, 11 July, the poet Sultan Al-Sabhan will be a guest at the Literature, Publishing, and Translation commission seminar to discuss poetry and its arts with Fatima Abu Sarir. On Sunday, 12 July, historian Dr. Saad Al-Rashed will be a guest in a seminar entitled "Antiquities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the ages" which he will talk with the interlocutor, Dr. Ahmed Al-Zailai, about the civilization sequence of antiquities in the Kingdom, and the importance of investing in soft power. As for Monday the 13 July, the focus is on the Children's literature. Dr. Arwa Khamis and the interviewer Amin Ibrahim will present ideas on "creating imagination among children. And ways to enrich it. While poetry will focus on a meeting on Tuesday 14 July with the poet Abd al-Latif bin Yusuf, who will speak with the interviewer Badour Alfassam about "engineering poetry. And the pillars of building the poem". On Wednesday, 15 July, the meeting will be devoted to the novel, "The Life of Writing." In it, novelist Zainab Hefni will talk with interviewer Randa AlSheikh about writing rituals, the life cycle of the text, and its relationship to reality. Novelist Hawraa Al-Nadawi will be the guest of a seminar on Thursday, 16 July, to speak with the interviewer Moaz Al-Muslim about the fictional text's poetics and the role of diaspora literature in documenting the Arab experience. On Friday, 17 July, the discussion will turn to the translation world in an interview entitled "Translation and Text Thresholds." The translator, Dr. Walid Belhaish Al-Omari, with the interviewer Abdulrahman Al-Sayed on the concerns of translation. The virtual seminar of the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission will conclude on Saturday, 18 July, with a meeting entitled "Traditional Culture and Folklore." With the intellectual and social historian Dr. Saad Al-Soyyan talking about cultural identity and signs of including the folk adage in literary works, and the importance of multiple culture sources in civilized development. These seminars come within the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission's efforts to build bridges of communication between intellectuals and the public, enrich the local cultural scene with qualitative meetings that shed light on various cultural issues, and enhance cultural dialogue between creators, cultural institutions and the public.
